Moving to 2-0 on the season, the Cicero-North Syracuse girls swim team gained a 99-79 victory over Syracuse at the Nottingham High School pool.
Grace Devinney was victorious in the 200 IM in 2:33.03 and swam the 100 backstroke in 1:09.08. Olivia Griffin, in 26.68 seconds, topped Alyssa LaFace (27.23) in the 50 freestyle before claiming the 100 freestyle in 59.51 seconds, again with LaFace (1:00.83) in the runner-up spot, though LaFace and Griffin helped Devinney and Brooke Fedi win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:49.59.
Walter, Fedi, Brandi Feeney and Jeanne Vinette took the 200 medley relay in 2:07.75. Fedi won the 100 butterfly in 1:05.71 and was a close second (2:06.78) to Syracuse’s Orla Lacey (2:05.26) in the 200 freestyle. Vinette won the 500 freestyle in 6:06.88. Feeney swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:25.35.
Liverpool returned on Thursday night and would face the same J-D team that F-M beat earlier in the week. And the Warriors had plenty of good moments, but not enough of them to prevent a 98-86 defeat to the Red Rams.
Not until Sarah Lavalley picked up 214.85 points to hold off J-D’s Lauren Saletsky (208.3 points) in diving did Liverpool take first place in any event. And it didn’t win a race until Ali Testone claimed the 100 backstroke, edging Mackenzie Moore, 1:05.46 to Moore’s 1:05.75. Testone also was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.69, just behind the Rams’ Emma Galletta, who won in 1:05.27.
Another close race, the 100 breaststroke, saw the Warriors’ Marissa Pisegna, in a clocking of 1:18.76, hold off J-D’s Jordan Archer (1:18.90) by inches. Jessica Testone was second in the 50 freestyle (27.47 seconds) and 100 freestyle (1:00.68). Maddie Rose was runner-up in the 200 IM (2:29.70) and 500 freestyle (5:48.66).
Galletta won twice for J-D, adding a 50 freestyle title (26.11 seconds) to her win in the 100 fly. Alexis Phillips was first in the 200 IM in 2:25.36 and went 57.96 seconds to win the 100 freestyle as Amelia Hesler tore through the 200 freestyle in 2:00.42 and won the 500 freestyle in 5:24.94.
All of this would lead Liverpool to its head-to-head clash Tuesday against C-NS, with the Warriors also hosting Syracuse on Thursday night.
