Placed at no. 4 in the first state Class A rankings of the fall, the Jamesville-DeWitt girls soccer team won its fourth in a row last Tuesday night, handling Auburn 5-0 with a steady, relentless attack that scored three times in the first half and kept it going while spreading the production around.
Grace Dimkopoulos led with two goals and one assist, with Emma Silverstein getting one goal and one assist. Ailish McDevitt and Ava Brazie also found the net as Sydney Baker and Hayley Quackenbush notched assists.
, J-D went to Oswego Thursday and bashed the Buccaneers by that same 5-0 margin, with Dimkopoulos again scoring twice as Tonia Kousmanidis, Grace Thomas and Grace Martin had one goal apiece. Sydney Tanner added an assist.
Then, in Saturday’s 6-0 romp over Central Square, the Rams were patient, breaking things open after only leading 1-0 at the break. Thomas scored twice, with Martin and Emma Silverstein each earning one goal and one assist. Kousmanidis and Brazie added goals as Baker and Foti contributed assists.
East Syracuse Minoa would go to Central Square earlier that same week and edge the Redhawks. Neither team would break through until Franchesca Polcaro, off a feed from Julia Perrotta, sent a shot past Redhawks goalie Hayley Bell. It held up thanks to a Spartans defense that turned back everything as Lauren Ott finished with six saves.
Then the Spartans lost, 4-2, in double overtime to Cortland on Thursday night, a result made more frustrating by the fact that a pair ofgoals from Polcharo had helped ESM build a 2-1 halftime lead.
Storming back, the Purple Tigers tied it in the second half and, after a scoreless first OT period, converted twice in the second extra period, overcoming Ott’s eight saves as Tori Cruz and Lillian Quick led Cortland, each of them with one goal and one assist.
ESM was home to face West Genesee Saturday and pushed it to overtime, but lost, 2-0, to the Wildcats, as Haley Elsey and Sarah Petrus scored them, Emma Nelson adding an assist. Prior to that, Ott had kept everything out of the net on her way to 13 saves.
More important than the result, the game raised money for ESM’s “Kara Fund”, named in honor of the late Kara MacDougall, a former ESM soccer star who passed away in 2010 at age 17.
Christian Brothers Academy was in the midst of a stretch where it played five times in eight days, and in the middle of it had to travel to face Class AA power Baldwinsville, where it struggled in a 5-0 loss to the Bees.
Mainly, the Brothers had a difficult time containing B’ville forward Hannah Mimas, who converted twice in the first half and added a goal in the 52nd minute for the hat trick. Hannah Johnson and Katie Pascale had the other goals, overcoming 16 total saves by Catherine Burns and Abbey Benware.
Right before taking on B’ville, CBA blanked Chittenango 4-0 last Monday night, recovering from its Sept. 9 overtime loss to Cazenovia by pulling away in the second half from the Bears after a single first-half tally.
Katy Stanard led that getaway, scoring twice, while Grace Hulslander scored for the third straight game and Amanda Winn found the net, too. Tate Kohlbrenner, Meghan McKeen and Anna Jenkins earned assists as Burns and Benware stopped all 12 shots they faced.
On Thursday, CBA beat Jordan-Elbridge in yet another 5-0 shutout, with most of the damage done in the second half. Stanard scored twice, with McKeen, Mari Saya and Kennedy Paciga netting single goals. Hulslander, Jenkins and Marni Rathbun contributed assists.
Manlius-Pebble Hill would get a tough 1-0 win over Fabius-Pompey last Tuesday night, netting the game’s only goal in the first half when Bianca Melendez-Martineau converted. Though unable to add to that lead, the Trojans held on behind nine saves from goalie Liza Bruno.
Bishop Grimes visited Bishop Ludden last Monday night and could not get on the board in a 3-0 defeat to the Gaelic Knights.
Throughout the game, Ludden put extensive pressure on the Cobras’ net, and while Caroline Wilkinson did a superb job, recording 21 saves, the Gaelic Knights still broke away from a 1-0 halftime lead as Laura Patulski scored twice and Abby Bombard had the other goal.
Back home Thursday to face Fabius-Pompey, the Cobras lost again by a 3-0 margin, unable to generate many opportunities. Wilkinson made 18 saves, but the Falcons got to her with goals from Hailey Niles (who also had an assist), Madi Reidl and Victoria Heselden.
