By the middle of September, the Westhill boys golf team was the only undefeated side in any of the fall leagues, and was determined to keep it that way.
The Warriors started the week 7-0, but quickly made it eight wins in a row last Monday with a 202-235 romp over the Mexico Tigers at Camillus Country Club.
Again, Westhill’s depth was on display as David Bleskoski took his turn at the top with a nine-hole score of 37. Anthony Maglisco finished with a 40 as Sean Dadey and Tim Alcaro both matched the 41 of Mexico’s low individual, Jack Ryan. Josh Marshall was solid, too, shooting a 43.
From there, Westhill went on to a key test against Homer on Thursday afternoon at CCC, and it turned into a showcase for Dadey as his career-best round highlighted the Warriors’ 195-226 romp of the Trojans.
All that Dadey did was shoot a three-under-par 32, carding four birdies to go with a bogey and four pars. Maglisco was second, with a 38, while Alcaro and Marshall both finished with 39 ahead of Homer’s top individual, Noah Goddard, who finished at 42.
West Genesee knew that its hopes of staying in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division race hinged on beating either of the teams on top, Baldwinsville and Fayetteville-Manlius.
When the Wildcats visited Timber Banks to take on B’ville last Tuesday, it lost a 192-205 decision to the Bees, despite three scores under 40.
In the race for individual honors, WG’s Nick Bove shot a 36, a total the Bees’ Ben Donohue topped with a 35 and a score Maxwell Dec matched. Jimmy LaValle had a 38 and Jack Corcoran shot 39, but Dan Reiser (38), Trevor Tooke (41) and Matt Shipman (42) helped B’ville stay in front as Connor Barry shot a 44 for the Wildcats and Tim Dipaola had a 45.
Going to Liverpool on Friday, the Wildcats roared back into the win column, topping the Warriors 193-213 as it got a season-best total from Bove, who blistered Liverpool Country Club with a five-under-par total of 31.
No one else got close to that mark as Tyler Leatherwood led Liverpool with a 37 and Spencer Baum got a 40, but WG stayed out in front with a steady effort from Dan Benetti, who had a 39, and three 41s from Corcoran, Dipaola and Joe Artini.
