Whether on the boys or girls side, the Skaneateles indoor track and field teams would have a large presence during last Saturday’s afternoon session of the George Constantino Memorial Invitational at SRC Arena.
On the girls side, the Lakers gained 80 points, third only to Fayetteville-Manlius (163 points) and Baldwinsville (140 points) and easily tops among small schools, while in the boys meet Skaneateles tied Homer and Institute of Technology Central for fourth place with 41 points as B’ville (174 points) pulled away at the top.
No one beat the Skaneateles girls in the 4×200 relay. Between them, Mia Grasso, Angela Krause, Emme Conan and Maddie Peterson posted one minute, 50.76 seconds, nearly three seconds ahead of B’ville (1;53.58) at the finish line.
A second victory was attained by Grasso in the high jump, where she cleared 5 feet 1 inch to edge the Bees’ Adrianna Straughter (5 feet) as Jessica Patalino was eighth, clearing 4’3”. Becca Rottger was victorious in the weight throw, heaving it 27’9 ½” to edge B’ville’s Danielle Marsell (27’8”) by 1 ½ inches for the victory as Rottger also took sixth place in the shot put, heaving it 25’11 ¼”.
Grasso also finished fourth in the 55-meter dash in 7.71 seconds, with Emme Conan ninth in 7.96 seconds, just out of the points. Peterson, in 44.65 seconds, was second, just 0.02 seconds behind B’ville’s Maria Henwood (44.63 seconds), in the 300-meter dash as Krause got seventh place in 45.59 seconds.
Julia Willcox, Natalie Condon, Brady Iles and Kyla Sears went 10:35.70 in the 4×800 relay, second to Fayetteville-Manlius (9:44.62). Patalino, Shay McCarthy, Christiana Ciaccio and Melissa Biver went 4:39.54 in the 4×400 relay for a third-place finish.
Individually, Willcox was fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:00.46, with Condon fifth in 5:11.26. Iles (9.76 seconds) beat out Mikaela Terhune (9.80 seconds) for sixth place in the 55-meter hurdles. Krause went 30’7 ½” to finish sixth in the triple jump. Georgia McSwain was ninth in the 1,000-meter run in 3:41.56, beating out Maddy Brogan (3:42.79) for that spot as McSwain also was 14th in the 600-meter run.
Moving to the boys side, Skaneateles saw Chase Corcoran record a top weight throw of 37’11” that put him in second place behind Westhill-Bishop Ludden’s Sean Corbett, who won with 42’7” as the Lakers’ Clark Strang was fourth with a heave of 34’11”.
Alex Vanriper earned a fourth-place triple jump of 37’8 ¾” and added a fifth-place long jump of 18’2 ¼” as Luke Palmer (17’11 ¼”) took eighth place. Cross Bianchi cleared 5’6” and finished seventh in the high jump.
Brahm Malcolm got to fourth place in the 55 hurdles in 8.83 seconds, while Nicola Kunz finished sixth in 9.64 seconds. Pat Hackler scored points in the sprints, too, by finishing seventh in the 300 in 39.98 seconds, just ahead of Jon Metz (40.56 seconds) in 10th place.
Hackler, Malcolm, Vanriper and Palmer were fifth in the 4×200 in 1:42.48 as Metz, Kunz, Luke Rathjeb and Ryan Willcox were seventh in the 4×400 in 4:08.38. Rathjeb had an 11th-place time of 5:03.01 in the mile, while Sam McClintic was 11th in the 600 and Bianchi was 14th in the 55 sprint and Nick Paciorek was 14th in the 1,000. Max Moss finished 15th in the triple jump.
