One appearance by the Baldwinvsille boys indoor track and field team, and one notch in the win column.
It came when the Bees traveled to Utica College’s Hutton Dome for the Mohawk Valley Relays, events where scores came from the combined times and distances from two or more athletes in every single race and field event.
Earning 66.5 points, the B’ville boys held off New Hartford (61 points) to prevail amid a 19-team field. And the girls indoor track Bees did well, too, earning 55.5 points, half a point behind Skaneateles (56 points) for third place as Rome Free Academy (67 points) held off Clinton (59 points) to finish on top.
Nate Jaquint was victorious in the boys 55-meter hurdles in 8.43 seconds and, helped by Nate Cutie (9.46 seconds), got team honors in a combined 17.89 seconds, the only pair to go under the 18-second mark. By himself, Jaquint got fifth-place points in the high jump by clearing 5 feet 8 inches, which was second in the individual event behind Central Valley’s Jacob Slaughter, who cleared 5’10”.
The mile relay, where four runners gathered up individual times, saw the Bees’ Adam Davis, Ben Timmons and Garrett Vannatta all finish in the top five, with Connor McManus ninth as their total times of 19 minutes, 10.75 seconds was more than a minute faster than New Hartford’s 20:20.61.
Then, in the 1,600 sprint medley relay, B’ville had yet another group of winners, this time Greg Porceng, Garrett Vannatta, Tyler Luciano and Kieran Sheridan pulling far away from the field, their time of 3:38.65 more than 16 second sahead of Homer (3:54.69), who settled for second place.
Moving to the 4×400 relay, B’ville had John Kresovich, George Kresovich, Broc Augustus and Michael Lawrence nearly prevailed, going 3:48.04 to finish inches behind Clinton, whose time of 3:47.97 was seven-hundredths of a second better. Michael Lagana cleared 10’6” in the pole vault, getting fifth-place points by himself.
As to the 4×200 relay, the Bees could only get fourth place as Justin Goodridge, Evan DaPrano, Judson Fletcher and Isaiah Demoski went 1:43.04 to finish fourth. Connor McManus, Mason Smith and the Kresovich brothers were eighth (9:34.99) in the 4×800. Fletcher and Andre Phillips were seventh in the weight throw, going 65’9”.
Fletcher and Anthony Sellers were fifth in the shot put, helping each other and getting combined leaps of 77’3 ¾’, while Luciano and Kevin Schrank were fifth in the long jump, going 35’3 ¼” between them. Catalano and Justin Goodridge were fifth in the 55-meter dash with total times of 14.36 seconds.
In the girls Mohawk Valley Relays, B’vile got some titles, too, one on the individual side from Adrianna Straughter, who won the high jump by clearing 5 feet 3 inches. Team-wise, Straughter and Karen Ekure (4 feet) were third at 9’3” behind New Hartford (9’7”) and RFA (9’4”).
Straughter, third among individuals in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.59 seconds, paired with Allyson Surowick for third in the team event in 21.02 seconds. Elizabeth Fawwaz, Leah Carpenter, Nadine Dickter and Cassie Tinkler got to fourth place in the 1,500-meter run, where their times added up to 23:15.15.
Katherine Sidall, Emme Foote, Meredith LaQue and Sarah Rodman went 4:30.53 in the 4×400 relay, getting second place behind Skaneateles, who won in 4:27.82. Lauren Addario had a second-place triple jump of 32’10” and, along with Marina Blasi, went 60’6” overall, second to West Canada Valley’s 63’ ½”.
Lauren Addario, paired with Maria Henwood, Karen Ekure and Patricia Conlan, took third place in the 1,600 sprint medley relay in 4:35.61. Sarah Rodman, Mia Bolton, Madison Dickter and Makayla Spicer were fourth in the 4×800 relay in 10:40.68, while Siddall, Addario,
Ekure and Lindsay Guild got seventh place in the 4×400 relay in 2:00.52. Anna Miller and Sofia Vallatta were fifth in the shot put with total throws of 50’11 ½”. Katie Weaver tied for fifth in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet, while Miller and Danielle Marsell were seventh in the weight throw with combined heaves of 51’11 ¼”.
