As another week of high school girls soccer ended, Bishop Ludden, who had gone 11-0-1 through its first 12 games this fall, took its first loss of the season, 3-1, to Cicero-North Syracuse, last Saturday afternoon.
The state Class C no. 8-ranked Gaelic Knights had not played in a week, and it took long for them to get on track, only getting on the board with Emma Driscoll’s second-half goal.
But this followed a first half where the Northstars built a 3-0 edge, Morgan Siechen scoring twice for C-NS and Ashlyn Slate getting the other goal. Kara Beamish finished with 10 saves.
Westhill, still at no. 2 in the state Class B rankings, also played just once last week, but made it count with an impressive 5-0 shutout of the Cazenovia Lakers.
Gaining a 2-0 halftime lead, the Warriors (10-1) pulled away behind Erin McMullen’s second three-goal hat trick of the season. Megan O’Reilly and Jayanna Monds had the other goals, with Monds adding two assists as Katelyn Karleski, Hannah Dorfman and Katelyn Karleski earned one assist apiece.
That same night, Marcellus, who were no. 11 in those same state rankings, was at home, stomping Phoenix 6-0 in a similar manner in that it was up 2-0 by halftime and then added much more to that margin in the late going.
There was a hat trick here, too, from Anna Vetsch, who found the net three times as Taylor Reich contributed a pair of goals. Overall, the Mustangs took 32 shots to the Firebirds’ four as Taylor Gould earned a goal, with assists credited to Katie Locastro, Michaela Tangredi and Lauren Lundrigan.
Going to Solvay two nights later, Marcellus handled the Bearcats, too, by a 5-0 margin. It was 3-0 by halftime, the Mustangs seeing Liz White return to form as she scored twice to lead a well-balanced attack.
Reich, Olivia Bird and Emily Alexander had one goal apiece. Gould and Tangredi contributed assists. Between them, Grace Coon and Mary Colella stopped all seven shots they faced, while Solvay’s goalies, Haley Muehl and Kierstein Scholl, had 19 total saves.
In a tough non-league game on Saturday, Marcellus edged Thousand Islands 1-0, unable to get on the board until the second half, when Tangredi scored off a feed from Gould. Coon and Colella combined to stop all six shots they faced as Vikings goalie Shannen Sipko had seven saves.
Jordan-Elbridge took on Onondaga Thursday night and defeated the Tigers 3-1, with the Eagles spreading around its production. Katie Goodrich had one goal and one assist, while Emily Somes and Julie Hines also found the net. Rylie Parker also got an assist as Mia Arms stopped 13 of the 14 shots she faced.
The Eagles then lost 7-1 to Cortland on Saturday as Somes netted J-E’s only goal and Margaret Reagan scored four times for the Purple Tigers to overcome Sophia Titus getting 16 svaes.
