Gymnasts always strive for perfection. Taylor Fishkin nearly got there.
As part of the Jamesville-DeWItt/F-M girls gymnastics team’s meet against Central Square, Fishkin accumulated a remarkable 37.9 out of 40 possible points in all-around competition as her side defeated the Redhawks 143.55-129.90.
Of the four individual apparatus events, Fishkin won three times, earning 9.7 for her floor exercise routine and 9.6 for the vault, while also getting 9.6 for uneven bars. Only on the balance beam did Fishkin fall back a bit, with a 9.0 score to trail Central Square’s Jennifer Nasiff, who won with 9.2.
Rachel Wells picked up 35.4 points, with a 9.5 vault and 9.1 floor routine. Moira Kurak added 33.2 points as Keeley Rylee scored 9.2 on the vault, Payton Riley (8.2) edged Ana Dieroff (8.1) on uneven bars and Maddy Chai had a floor score of 9.0.
For the second time in as many weeks, East Syracuse Minoa/Liverpool got into the win column. Paced by the likes of Alyssa Penizotto and Delia Korszeniewski, ESM/Liverpool followed up its Sept. 22 win over Central Square by claiming a 123.0-117.25 decision over the Whitesboro Warriors.
With scores of 9.1 on the balance beam, 8.5 on floor exercise (second in both events) and 7.75 on uneven bars, Penizotto finished second in the all-around standings with 33.5 points behind Whitesboro’s Tiffany Khiamdavanh, whose 33.9 points included a 9.4 beam routine.
Korszeniewski, who finished with 32.75 points, offered valuable help when she won the floor event with an 8.6 routine, just ahead of Penizotto’s 8.5, and she would add an 8.25 vault to finish third behind the Warriors’ Alyssa Smith (8.45) and Taylor Bushey (8.3).
