Liverpool had its second encounter with unbeaten Fayetteville-Manlius last Monday afternoon, and it went exactly like the first one did on Aug. 31, with the Warriors unable to snare a point from the Hornets in a 7-0 defeat.
Of the seven matches, just one went to three sets. That was in first singles, where Katelyn Nguyen led F-M’s Maggie Bonomo, but could not hold on to it in a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 loss. Erin Chambrone got close to forcing a third set, but fell to Anna Manta 6-1, 7-5 as Julie Schewe lost to Katerina Atallah 6-0, 6-0.
On the doubles side, Liverpool’s Valerie Morgans and Annie Trang had a 6-0, 6-3 defeat to Diana and Keara Polovick, with Megan Blake and Julie Nguyen falling to Kristina Liu and Patrice Calancie 6-0, 6-0. Diana Kozenyatko and Eleni Ioannidis fell to Gretchen Ayoub and Martha Welker 6-0, 6-2 as Gabby Underwood and Giana LaValle lost to Rachel Liu and Abby Charlamb 6-0, 6-1.
Then C-NS had its turn two days later, also getting beat 7-0 and also getting just one set from any of those matches. It came in doubles, where Brenna Duffy and Megan Tryniski won the first set 6-4 over the Polovick sisters, but lost the next two sets by 6-1 and 6-4 margins.
Up in singles, Karrah Savage had a 6-2, 6-2 defeat to Manta, with Ava Breitbeck falling to Kristina Liu 6-1, 6-0 and Breanna Melfi taking a 6-2, 6-0 defeat to Calance. In doubles, Hanna Costello and Madison Murphy fell to Bonomo and Atallah 6-0, 6-1, with Sarah Cooper and Sarah Wicks losing to Ayoub and Welker 6-1, 6-0 as Vanessa Luangaphay and Jenna Wilson fell to Rachel Liu and Cassie Wojtasiewicz by those same scores.
Before that, the Northstars beat Central Square 5-2 last Monday afternoon, with the key match in singles coming when Sydney Franco overcoming the loss of a first-set tie-breaker to outlast the Redhawks’ Victoria Tyrrell 6-7 (7-5), 6-2, 6-3. Breitbeck beat Julia Georges 6-2, 6-3, while Melft fell to Madison Sabourin 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles, Costello and Murphy lost a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 decision to Erin McCarthy and Alyssa Payne, but the teams of Duffy-Tryniski, Cooper-Wicks and Luangaphay-Wilson each won in straight sets, Cooper and Wicks having the closest call as they beat Maddie Haley and Savannah Todd 7-5, 6-3.
Right after its loss to F-M, Liverpool rebounded Wednesday with a 7-0 shutout of Syracuse West where Katelyn Nguyen handled Kyaw Kyaw 6-1, 6-1 in first singles, with Schewe romping past Hanon Musa 6-0, 6-1 and Chambrone shutting out Samiya Musa 6-0, 6-0.
Blake, paired with Juile Nguyen, won a 6-4, 6-1 doubles battle over Kayla Pagano and Kelsey Lent-Moore, with Morgans pairing up with Annie Trang to also prevail in two sets.
