Cazenovia College has reached the end of its five-year, $10 million Capital Campaign – nine months ahead of schedule and nearly $1 million over the goal. As part of the college’s celebration for reaching this milestone, the college has scheduled a fireworks display to be enjoyed by the entire Cazenovia community for this Friday night.
Reaching this goal helps “set the stage for future successes at the college,” said Carol Satchwell, vice president for institutional advancement. “It highlights the foundation of support both in revenue as well as in participation from all the alumni and friends who have made this investment in our future and the future of our students. So it strengthens the institution overall.”
The College’s first comprehensive fundraising initiative, Building Futures One at a Time: The Campaign for Cazenovia College, has raised $10.8 million and funded capital projects including Christakos Field, updated science labs and a historical-building renovation on Jephson Campus. In addition, gifts to the college’s endowment have increased academic and scholarship support for faculty and students.
Donations have come from a myriad of sources, including college alumni, parents, employees, trustees, friends, local foundations and local businesses, Satchwell said.
Important to the success of the campaign has been the relationship between the community and the institution, as many donors live in the greater Cazenovia area and/or work at the college. In turn, the college is an essential component of the local economy, according to a college statement.
Former village resident and current interim college president, Margery Pinet, said she recognizes this special link between the institution and the town. “My association with the community and college has lasted 36 years. I can’t imagine one without the other.” She said. “Many campaign contributions came from people who live and work locally; so we are celebrating our success with our neighbors, and thanking them with this gift of fireworks to enjoy.”
The fireworks are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, and will be launched from Gypsy Bay and can best be viewed from Lakeland Park – the same as the Fourth of July annual fireworks. Satchwell said. Before the fireworks, the college will have daylong activities for alumni, faculty, friends, parents, staff, students, trustees and donors.
