Onondaga — Over a two-week stretch, the area’s indoor track and field teams would have six different competitions on the agenda, including both league and Section III meets that will take place at SRC Arena.
What started with the Onondaga High School League Division 2 and 3 meets continued with the Utica Challenge Invitational and with Sunday’s John Arcaro Memorial Invitational, made up from a Jan .18 snow postponement.
Here, Fayetteville-Manlius dominated the evening session, winning with 145 points over Christian Brothers Academy (81 points) on the girls side as Jamesville-DeWitt (54 points) finished fourth and East Syracuse Minoa was seventh with 17 points.
Jenna Farrell won the 3,000-meter run in 10:53.57, with Alex Villalba (11:26.94) beating out CBA’s Lucy Person (11:29.76) for the runner-up spot. Rebecca Walters needed 5:02.54 to hold off CBA’s Olivia Morganti (5:03.35) in the 1,500-meter run, with Claire Walters third (5:08.29) and Reilly Madsen fourth (5:12.85) ahead of the Brothers’ Lea Kyle and Kat Fletcher in the next two spots.
Later, in the 1,000-meter run, Phoebe White, in 3:10.46, pulled away from Samantha Levy (3:14.51) as J-D’s Elena Haarer was third in 3:17.49 and ESM’s Katherine Jacobs beat out teammate Melanie DeFeo for sixth place. And in the 600-meter run, Sophie Ryan routed the field in 1:36.47, with Rebecca Walters taking second place in 1:45.91
Levy, Christy Berge’, Palmer Madsen and Susan Bansbach won the 4×800 relay in 9:49.95, with J-D’s Sophia Vinciguerra, Casey Keane, Hannah Butler and Ayla Erwin second in 10:21.02. ESM finished fourth in 12:32.80. Berge’, Madsen, Bansbach and Phoebe Lindabury claimed the 4×400 relay in 4:23.57, this time with the Rams grabbing fourth place in 4:48.09 and the Spartans (5:04.98) sixth.
F-M also got a win in the field events from Cady Barns, who went 31 feet 2 inches in the triple jump, with CBA’s Skylar Decker third (31’ ½”) and J-D’s Mackenzie Maxam fourth (30’8 ¾”) as the Hornets’ Febe Oley was sixth.
continued — CBA’s Anna Schug swept the sprints, taking the 55-meter dash in 7.62 seconds over F-M’s Meaghan Hower (7.74 seconds), with Schug’s teammates, Kiana Ferguson (7.75 seconds) and Anna Langlois (7.80 seconds) third and fifth, respectively.
Then, in the 300-meter dash, Schug, in 42.43 seconds, pulled away from Howe (44.01 seconds), with Ferguson third in 44.65 seconds and Barns (44.79 seconds) in fifth place. To top it off, Schug, Ferguson, Langlois and Olivia Morganti went 1:53.71 to hold off F-M’s quartet of Howe, Bansbach, Lindabury and Sydney O’Dell (1:53.96) for the top spot as ESM was fifth (1:58.99) and J-D finished sixth.
Skylar Decker was third in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.68 seconds, with O’Dell (9.68 seconds) fourth. Ryleigh Peterson was third in the 600 in 1:49.11, with J-D’s Katie Lutz fourth in 1:50.12 and the Brothers’ Claire Bargabos fifth in 1:50.66, ahead of ESM’s Megan Vanderwarker in sixth place.
J-D’s best finish was in the pole vault, where Gabrielle Tanksley won, clearing 8’6” as Sara Signorelli was second, topping 8 feet. In the shot put, Mariah Williams threw it 30’7” to only trail Cicero-North Syracuse’s Destiny Monica (32’6”) as F-M’s Sophia Jones was third, heaving it 29’ ¾” as ESM’s Lindsay Crego was fourth with a throw of 27’10” and her teammate, Jennah Ferrari, was fourth (4’6”) in the high jump.
Meanwhile, in the boys meet, F-M, with 104 points, pulled away from Cicero-North Syracuse (74.5), who unlike the Hornets had competed at Utica two nights earlier. CBA was third with 38 points, with ESM (33.5 points) climbing to fifth place and J-D getting 19 points for ninth place.
F-M went 1-2 in the 3,200-meter run, with Bryan Geehrer prevailing in 9:34.24, just ahead of Patrick Perry (9:39.68) as Bishop Grimes saw Chris Larson take fourth place in 10:47.40. Later, Perry (1:29.86) beat out Geehrer (1:30.66) for fourth place in the 600.
continued — Chibu Ezidegwu had a top triple jump of 42’3”, with teammate Connor Florczyk third (40’6 ½”) and Jack Grifo (38’9”) in sixth place. Then, in the high jump, Ezidegwu cleared 5’10” to top J-D’s Jan Ramirez, who tied for second clearing 5’8” as Nolan Roosa was fifth (5’6”) for the Red Rams as Alex Le cleared 10 feet in the pole vault, finishing third..
Brendan Pearl, in 2:50.21, was second to Hannbial’s Jason McFarland (2:46.20) in the mile, with CBA’s Dominic Morganti third in 2:52.07 and the Hornets’ Stefan Mina fourth in 2;53.22.
Jack Boltman, Vincent Perry, Sean Donlon and Michael Young were second (3:48.61), half a second behind C-NS (3:48.11), in the 4×400 relay. Max Perry, in 4:45.79, beat out Matt Tripp (4:56.40) and Eli Capri (4:56.53) for third place in the mile as Florczyk, Grifo, Armando Adrian and Peyton Burnett were second (1:38.07) to Henninger (1:37.68) in the 4×200. Perry took sixth in the pole vault.
On CBA’s side, Tom SanGiacomo claimed the 300 in 37.46 seconds, with Florczyk in third place (39.49 seconds) and Adrian (39.58 seconds) in fifth place. Also, SanGiacomo was fourth (6.82 seconds) in the 55 sprint. Brendan Keeney was third in the 600 in 1:28.08 as SanGiacomo, Pat Carey, Brett Vanpatten and Jake Vanpatten were third (1:43.19) in the 4×200.
ESM swept the top spots in the 55 hurdles, where Jeremy McGrath, who was fifth in the 55 sprint, won in 8.16 seconds over Isaiah Brooks (8.25 seconds) in second place as CBA’s Pat Carey (8.72 seconds) beat out J-D’s Alex Carbacio (8.81 seconds) for fifth place. Brooks took fourth place in the high jump (5’8”) as Connor Harrigan got sixth place.
Also, Nick Berg, Jim Kenyon, Jared Henry and Matt Young were second (8:43.10) to Marcellus (8:40.30) in the 4×800, with F-M third in 8:43.69 and CBA (9:27.45) taking fifth place. The Spartans were sixth in the 4×400. Evan Baxter was fifth (38’4 ½”) in the shot put.
