Onondaga — For the second Central New York Indoor Track Association meet of the season, the format changed – but the ambitions did not.
Again, the events at SRC Arena were split into two portions, a morning and afternoon session, though Wednesday’s Oscar B. Jensen Holiday Relays differed from the Dec. 19 Jack Morse Kickoff Meet in that two athletes competed for each team in each event, with combined times, heights and distances used to determine points.
West Genesee would thrive in the afternoon session, getting third place on both sides with 61.5 points for the girls Wildcats, inches behind runner-up Baldwinsville (62 points) as Fayeteville-Manlius (84 points) won. Westhill-Bishop Ludden was fifth with 39.5 points.
Maria Matkoski won two individual races to lead WG. She took the 800-meter run in 2:20.80 and, with Alicia Sakran, were second in the team standings in 5:07.75 as Westhill-Ludden’s Alaina Kenny and Haylei Coolican were close behind (5:09.30) in third place.
Then, in the 500-meter run, Matkoski, in 1:23.03, edged Skaneateles’ Mia Grasso (1:23.04) by one-hundredth of a second, but this time it lead to a team victory since Megan Delia finished third and their combined 2:48.84 cleared the field, including Westhill-Ludden (2:58.66) in fifth place.
Carly Benson, for her part, won the 600-meter run in 1:42.17, and with Kendall Dombroske claimed team honors in 3:28.14 to F-M’s 3:29.60, with Westhill-Ludden fourth in 3:40.79. Earlier, Benson and Kendall Dombroske were third in the mile relay in 11:21.44, with the Warriors sixth, while Emily Young and Mia Mitchell took second (23:12.85) to F-M (22:42.92) in the 3,000-meter run.

Westhill-Ludden had Alex Kiley win the individual triple jump, going exactly 41 feet, also counting for fourth-place points as WG’s Mitch Colvin and Javier Monserrate were second (69’1 ¾”) to F-M’s 79’3 ½”.
