Anything following the drama of the Baldwinsville girls tennis team’s near-conquest of Fayetteville-Manlius – and it 303-match win streak – on Sept. 7 would pale in comparison, but the Bees still managed a series of impressive efforts.
In its first action after the F-M match, the Bees quickly got back in the win column last Tuesday with a 7-0 shutout of Syracuse East. Taylor Slink had the closest singles match, but still rolled past Mei Lin Luzadis 6-4.
Kahlei Reisinger,who dropped the dramatic third-set tie-breaker to F-M’s Sienna Susko, bounced back from her tough defeat by ripping Rachel Parillo 6-0, 6-0 as Katie Ferrari beat Domenica Wilson 6-1, 6-0.
Like Reisinger, the doubles teams of Natalie Kot-Amari Pollard and Madeline Fiello-Katherine Schumacher also won without dropping a game.
More importantly, B’ville earned a top-flight win on Thursday afternoon when it went to West Genesee and, mostly propelled by strong singles play, beat the Wildcats by that familiar 4-3 margin.
Reisinger routed Rachel Gillett 6-0, 6-0, with Pollard doing the same to Nicole Baz 6-1, 6-0. Ferrari had a bit more stress, but still rolled past Melissa Schiff 6-1, 6-3.
Just one point was needed in doubles, and while Fiello and Schumacher fell to Samantha Heyn and Marisa Joyce 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, Lauren Dusse and Maddie Quilter proved successful, clinching the team victory with a 6-4, 6-3 conquest of Mary Frontale and Sarah Plunkett.
To end this wild stretch, B’ville won the West portion of Saturday’s CNY Invitational with 25 points, outlasting Mexico (19 points) and Auburn (18 points) for the top spot.
Reisinger, in the first single final, blanked Auburn’s Lauryn Husby 6-0, 6-0. Ferrari lost the second singles final to the Maroons’ Julia Wagner, but Slink beat another Auburn standout, Lindsay May, 6-2, 6-3 in the third singles division.
B’ville also took three of the four doubles divisions. Kot and Pollard beat Mexico’s duo of Joelle Lombardoni and Carissa Woolson 6-4, 6-4, with Mautz and Quilter beating the Tigers’ Samantha Hillman and Kelsi Simpeliar by those exact same scores. Dusse and Dana Murphy romped past Mexico’s Morgan Dimon and Halega Marek 6-1, 6-0 in fourth doubles.
It figures to get easier for the Bees this week in a trio of matches against the likes of Central Square, Oswego and Syracuse West.
