VILLAGE OF MINOA – The Minoa Field Days made a return to Lewis Park last week after being called off for two straight years.
Hosted by the village’s fire department, the community fair took place in sunny weather from 6 to 11 p.m. on Thursday, from 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday and from 1 p.m. to midnight on Saturday.
The only event of its type in Onondaga County, the celebration featured a midway presented by Main Event Amusements that included carnival games, a carousel, a swinging pirate ship and a Ferris wheel.
Other highlights were the fireworks display Friday night, the Saturday evening parade that led from Minoa Elementary back to the park, and musical performances from Infinity, The Bomb and Dunes & The Del-Tunes.
Inside the pole barn in Lewis Park, representatives of the fire department assisted in serving food like pizza and burgers. Elsewhere on the fairgrounds were stands that dished out hand-dipped corn dogs and chocolate-covered frozen bananas.
Richard Sabin, this year’s event chairperson, said the crowds were “amazing” and that he sees the fair as a fun way to bring people together.
“The field days is for the community and it’s a good time,” said Sabin, who has been a volunteer fireman in the Minoa department for 37 years. “Without our members and the volunteers to help out, though, it wouldn’t be possible.”
Although it usually coincides with the field days, this year’s fun drive to benefit the fire department has been extended another month to the Fourth of July.
