VILLAGE OF MANLIUS – During the early morning of Wednesday, Aug. 11, emergency crews responded to an apartment fire in Manlius that was eventually determined to be accidental.
Around 5 a.m. the fire reportedly spread from the second-floor bedroom of Town House East apartment L-11 to neighboring individual apartments and adjoining apartment buildings on West Pleasant Street.
A total of 24 apartments were left uninhabitable due to fire, smoke and water damage and in some cases loss of power.
All tenants of the complex and all known pets were evacuated without injury.
One emergency responder was treated at the scene for a “minor injury,” and another was transported to an area hospital for further evaluation.
The American Red Cross collaborated with the Fayetteville-Manlius School District to bus those displaced as a result of the fire to a temporary shelter established at the local high school.
According to a release sent out by the Manlius Police Department, F-M school counselors have been working with students and families adversely affected by the Aug. 11 incident.
Over this past weekend, electronics recycling center Sunnking partnered with Assemblyman Al Stirpe to hold an impromptu supply donation drive to ease the burden for the Town House East residents who lost treasured belongings and other household items.
“It gives us a chance to hopefully collect as many impactful items as we can for these families,” Sunnking Marketing Director Robert Burns said. “Some of the little things we take for granted each day would mean the world to them right now and we know our community can come together to let them know they’re not alone.”
Manlius police request that anyone with additional information about the fire contact the department at (315) 682-2212.
