A late write-in push by trustee candidate Casey Cleary brought a lot of last-minute interest to a Fayetteville election that had previously been uncontested, but in the end, both Dan Kinsella and Dennis Duggleby retained their trustee positions.
Cleary had publicly announced her candidacy about two weeks prior to the election. She garnered 318 votes to Duggleby’s 408 and Kinsella’s 465. Mayor Mark Olson, who was uncontested, received 599 votes.
A total of 716 Fayetteville residents voted in the election.
Cleary had run on a platform of preserving the village’s unique character and putting the brakes on some of the large commercial proposals that are currently moving through the village’s planning stages, including a proposed grocery store at 547 E. Genesee St. and a five-story mixed-use facility at the corner of E. Genesee Street and Highbridge Street.
“Our base has grown. Awareness about our platform issues has increased significantly,” Cleary said in a post to supporters on her Facebook page. “I am especially pleased that so many are now committed to defeating the proposal for 547 East Genesee Street.”
