Democrat Tom Buckel has been elected to the Onondaga County Legislature District 7, beating out Independence Party candidate Courtney Hills in an unofficial tally of 3,537 to 2,515  votes.

Buckle previously served in this seat from 2007 to 2011, and was endorsed in this election for the Democratic, Working Families and Women’s Equality parties.

“I hope to change the culture of acrimony. Reasonable people owe our community the duty of working together, overcoming differences,” said Buckle.

Hills was registered to the Independence Parry, and endorsed by the Republican Party. She decided to run after Danny Liedka, the former Republican in that seat, announced he would not seek reelection.

The 7th district covers the village of East Syracuse and a large portion of the town of DeWitt. The term for this seat is two years.
