Lindsey Lawson knew she only had a few more chances to dazzle Cazenovia girls basketball fans before taking her talents to Harvard University.
And Lawson saved one of the best efforts of her career for last Tuesday’s game against visiting Jordan-Elbridge, outscoring the Eagles all by herself during a 60-37 victory.
Having lost three of four since racing out to a 9-2 start, Cazenovia needed a jolt as it was scheduled to face three games in a four-day span.
Against J-E, Lawson was impossible to contain and the Lakers kept going to her, eventually building a 43-13 lead by halftime.
Using her wide array of post moves, Lawson converted 15 field goals, added a pair of 3-pointers, and sank a trio of free throws, all of it amounting to 39 points, a new season mark.
Julia Bauder contributed seven points, and Lawson’s efforts negated a more balanced J-E approach as Ashlee Eaton had 10 points, ahead of Mollie Yard, Kyler Langhorn (eight points each) and Kasey Jackson (seven points).
Thursday’s game between the Lakers and Hannibal was snowed out and gets made up on Monday night. More snow on Friday moved a non-league game against Port Byron to Feb. 18, a day before the announcement of the Section III Class B playoff pairings.
Aside from the Hannibal game, Cazenovia is also set this week to face Altmar-Parish-Williamstown and, on Thursday, visit Brookfield, who at 19-0 and no. 3 in the state Class D rankings is looking to complete an undefeated regular season.
That same late-week snowstorm kept Chittenango from taking on Homer Friday night, ahead of a last week of the regular season where it has games against Skaneateles and Fayetteville-Manlius.
Chittenango had just knocked off Lowville 54-36 on Feb. 1 in a game where, after leading 21-12 through one period, it got shut out by the Red Raiders in the second quarter.
Still, the Bears recovered to outscore Lowville 33-14 in the second half as Emily Moon had 18 points and 16 rebounds, with Ally Shoemaker getting 14 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals and seven assists. Sarah Lanphear added nine points.
