April 10, 1867 — A couple married in this village last week, received an impromptu serenade on the night of their bridal, in which instruments chosen more for strength than for beauty of tone figured largely. As law-abiding citizens, we must enter our protest against all such proceedings; they are disgraceful only to those who participate in them.
We regret that the Seminary and village are disgraced this term by a few scoundrels who are endeavoring to render themselves nuisances by the taking down and carrying away of signs, and other acts beyond the pale of decency. We hope these offenders against law and order may be discovered and the full penalty of the law enforced against them.

April 12, 1967 — The opening of St. James Parish fund appeal, seeking a goal of $135,000 raised over the next three years, was announced Sunday by Rev. A. Robert Casey, pastor.
This drive is in anticipation of a new church and religious education center to be erected on the site of the present church building, now 114 years old.
Henry Kaiser has been named general chairman for the drive. Robert Kennedy and John Walsh are serving as co-chairmen for the advanced solicitation, which will take place on Sunday, April 30.
A special advisory committee is under the direction of William Kiley and Frank Costello.
The drive leaders are already engaged in the enlistment of more than 125 men from the parish to take part in the solicitation.
It has been estimated that the new facilities will cost in excess of $350,000 according to Father Casey, and it is felt that a minimum of $135,000 of this cost is a realistic portion to be raised at this time.
