BALDWINSVILLE – As it does each year, the Baldwinsville girls tennis team understands that its ultimate measure comes against Fayetteville-Manlius.
When those two sides first clashed on Sept. 2, the Bees did capture a doubles point, but could not break through in singles, leading to a 6-1 defeat to the Hornets.
Playing in first doubles, B’ville’s Ayla Kalfass and Mira Nazdan only needed two sets to subdue F-M’s Natalie Hugo and Katya Quinn 6-3, 7-6.
The Hornets swept the other doubles, though. Elaina Nesbitt and Julia Quinn fell to Angela Iskander and Maya McKenzie 6-3, 6-4, with Alexandra Cavino and Sophia Fiorentino taking a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Ava Abruzzese and Brooke Tester. Isabella Iannitti and Megan Stack-Couture lost to Madison Chamberlain and Laura Scalzetti 6-1, 6-3.
In a three-set singles battle, Audrey Benton could not hold on to her early lead, falling to Trisha Adavikolanu 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Hannah Gould lost 6-0, 6-0 to Anna Manta as Reagan Doan fell to Angelina Fang 6-2, 7-6.
B’ville returned to the win column last Tuesday by handling Syracuse West 6-0.
Doan and Quinn paired up for a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Hsay Hitoo and Sumina Subba, with Benton and Ella Tromblee beating Layla Forbes and Angelina Nguyen by those same scores. Another 6-0, 6-0 shutout had Cavino and Elaina Nesbitt handling Jane Muriakatele and Hsay Wah.
Kalfass played first singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Hsar Eh Soe. By equal 6-0, 6-0 scores, Gould and Mira Nazdan took out, respectively, Eh Hso and Ava Miles.
After a week to rest and practice, B’ville takes on Henninger next Tuesday and hosts Cicero-North Syracuse on Sept. 16.
