Cicero-North Syracuse’s track and field teams had quite a successful finish to its CNY Counties League National division slate, earning a sweep over Baldwinsville on Wednesday afternoon.
In the closer boys meet at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, the Northstars prevailed, 89-52, over the Bees, and that included a sweep of all the long-distance running events.
Bryan Bausinger needed just four minutes, 40 seconds to run the mile, going on to take the 800-meter run in 2:08 before Colin Greenseich won the 3,200-meter run in 10:09.1.
Pete Girardi rolled to first in the 110 high hurdles in 15.1 seconds, with Morgan Austen needing 57.8 seconds to win the 400 hurdles. They both moved on to field events, where Austen went 18 8 ¼” in the long jump and Girardi went 38’3 ¼” in the triple jump.
Mark Hentges soared to 12’9” in the pole vault, while Nick Antonello cleared 5’6” in the high jump. Joe Castaldo had a 130-foot discus throw after tossing the shot put 47’10”. C-NS won despite B’ville sweeping all three relay events.
At Bragman Stadium, the girls Northstars pummeled B’ville 102-39, and once again Sasha Pulaski won both sprints, going 12.6 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 26.6 seconds in the 200-meter dash. Madison Kolakowski took the 400-meter dash in 1:01.2,
Moving to the distance events, Jacqlynn Halstead went 11:27 flat in the 3,000-meter run, this after Jilliann Norris took 5:06 to prevail at 1,500 meters and Amanda Shuman won the 800-meter run in a clocking of 2:38. Norris, Kolakowski, Taylor Parry and Cassandra Baldwin were victorious in the 4×800 relay in 10:07.
C-NS won four of five field events, including the long jump, where Hannah Szumloz went 16 feet 2 ½ inches. Destiny Monica threw the shot put 32’7”, while Julia King had a top triple jump of 33’2”. Whitney Hotchkiss cleared 8’6” for first place in the pole vault.
Two days before facing B’ville, the Northstars routed Henninger 112-29 on the boys side and 113-18 on the girls side, getting girls titles from Pulaski in the 100 (13.2 seconds) and 200 (27.4 seconds) sprints, while Szumloz took the 100 hurdles in 16.9 seconds.
Kolakowski was victorious in the 800 (2:31)and 400 hurdles (1:10), while Maria LaMontagne took the 1,500 in 5:35 and Parry (11:56) prevailed at 3,000 meters.
Monica, with a shot put toss of 31’8”, led a C-NS sweep of the field events as Shannon Hanmer (discus, 84’1”), Olivia King (long jump, 14’7 ½”), Julia King (triple jump, 30’4”) and Cassandra Baldwin (high jump, 4’6”) also prevailed.
It was much the same in the boys meet, where Girardi went 14.9 seconds in the 110 high hurdles and 52.3 seconds in the 400 sprint, while Austen took the 400 hurdles in 59.7 seconds and had a top high jump of 5’8”.
Castaldo had long throws in the discus (136’6”) and shot put (47’1”), with George Reader going 18’5 ½” in the long jump and Connor Osborne clearing 11 feet in the pole vault.
Bausinger, winning the mile in 4:57.5, led a sweep of the distance running events that included Paul DeGennaro going 2:15.1 in the 800-meter run and Greenseich taking the 3,200-meter run in 10:54.4. C-NS also got titles in the 4×400 and 4×800 relays.
Liverpool’s track and field teams finished its regular season with last Wednesday’s head-to-head meet against West Genseee at LHS Stadium. And it proved to be a close one on the girls side, but the Warriors prevailed, 73-68, over the Wildcats, while the boys Warriors routed the Wildcats 101-40.
During Friday’s John Arcaro Invitational at Baldwinsville, the C-NS boys track team finished second, with 102 points, to host B’ville’s total of 130 points, while the girls Northstars had 97 points to finish third behind B’ville (192 points) and West Genesee (143 points).
In the boys 4×800, Bausinger, Paul DeGennaro, Andrew Bearkland and Eric Bowen won in 8:32.51, well clear of second-place East Syracuse-Minoa (8:39.49) and the field. The Northstars were also third in the 4×400 and fifth in the 4×100.
Greenseich needed 10:27.97 to pull away and win the 3,200, with Zach Wagner (11:19.64) in fourth place, while Bausinger was second in the mile in 4:37.07 and DeGennaro was fourth. Bearkland took third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:57.9, with Bryan Traub sixth. Ed Mahana was fourth in the 110 high hurdles and fifth in the 400 hurdles.
Tyler Mosher won the shot put with a throw of 45’3”, with Ross Mathewson fourth and Roy Young fifth. Mark Hentges, clearing 12’3”, claimed a victory in the pole vault, while James Dwyer (10 feet) was third. Mathewson rose to third place in the discus, heaving it 117 feet. George Reader was fourth (18’4”) and Matt Romanyk fifth (17’9”) in the long jump.
On the girls side, Kolakowski won the 400 hurdles in 1:10.94, with Norris going 4:59.43 to prevail in the 1,500, where Halstead was fourth and Parry sixth. Norris added a third in the 800 as Megan Trubia took third in the 3,000, with Savannah Stevens fourth.
Baldwin was third (17.40 seconds) and Brittany House fourth (17.49 seconds) in the 100 hurdles. Baldwin (13’7”) and House (13’3 ½”) were third and fourth in the long jump, and Baldwin added a fifth in the high jump.
Dolan was second in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet. King went 31’3 ½” for third place in the triple jump. Nicole Herringshaw was third in the discus, throwing it 75’7”. C-NS finished second (4:19.03) to B’ville (4:05.68) in the 4×400 relay, and third in the 4×800.
