September is National Senior Center Month. This year’s theme is Find Balance at Your Center. You can find balance at Canton Woods. The center offers a wide range of programs.
It is time for Walk for the Woods 2016! The Walk for the Woods 2016 is set for Saturday, Sept. 17. This is a pleasant walk through our neighborhood with a stop to greet folks from McHarrie Life on their front porch. The Walk for the Woods is a rain-or-shine event. Everyone is welcome to tie up their sneakers and Walk for the Woods. Registration forms are available at Canton Woods and on the village of Baldwinsville website, baldwinsville.org. Support your senior center; join the Walk for the Woods 2016!
AARP Defensive Driving returns. The next class is Thursday, Oct. 6. The class time is 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you are a member of AARP the fee is $20 and if you do not belong to AARP the fee is $25. Call the center at 638-4536 to register. Classes fill up quickly.
Summer Entertainment Series continues with Eddie Fagan. Eddie will return to Canton Woods at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15. The concert is free and sponsored by The Hearth Premier Senior Living. This is a party you do not want to miss!
Art group gathers at Canton Woods. Canton Woods is very pleased to announce that Mike Conway, newly retired art teacher, has agreed to facilitate an Art Group at Canton Woods. The next session is at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20. Call the center to sign up at 638-4536.
Canton Woods’ own version of “Antique Road Show.” Bring your collectable or favorite heirloom from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19. A small fee will be charged for each appraisal. Local appraisers Ed Becker and Robert Bacon from Fayetteville will be on hand.
Coffee with the Mayor. Mayor Richard Clarke will visit the center at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20. This is your opportunity to catch up on village happenings and ask any questions you may have.
The Senior Activity Group Hot Dog Tuesdays are at 11:30 a.m. every Tuesday. Stop by the center and enjoy these seasonal favorites. Everyone is welcome. The price is $2.25 per hot dog or coney. This is a fun and tasty fundraiser. See you at the center!
Canton Woods now has a medication return collection unit. This is a safe and environmentally-friendly way to dispose of your unused medications. You may drop off your unused medication to the return box at Canton Woods from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Senior Nutrition. You can enjoy lunch at the center. Canton Woods is a senior nutrition lunch site on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Make a reservation (638-4536) and stop by at noon for lunch. The nutrition program is open to anyone 60 years of age and older. Suggested donation is $2.75.
Wondering what’s for lunch? On Wednesday, Sept. 21, the menu includes sliced ham on a buttery croissant served with honey mustard topping, cream of broccoli soup and sherbet. Make your reservation and join us for a delicious lunch!
