To the editor:
Today, Donald Trump stood with Vladimir Putin and told the world he thinks Vladimir Putin’s word is better than that of the totality of United States intelligence services and the guilty pleas and 30 indictments from the Mueller probe.
Yesterday Trump called the European Union our “foe” and Russia our “competitor.” The day before, Theresa May was an idiot and then she was not an idiot for not taking his advice on Brexit. The day before, Germany was a slave to Russia. (I wonder if, next, he will claim that the axis of evil once again runs through Berlin.) And before that, if you don’t want to lose your children, don’t come to our door (as we agreed to) under international law, asking for help. This is not speculation; it is all on camera, in loud, obnoxious language.
Before that the Mueller probe was a witch hunt and after he heard about the new indictments of a dozen Russian military officers for hacking our election system in his favor it is still a witch hunt.
Last week, and the week before and the month prior … Every day a new insult to our democracy. Every day a new emolument for his pocketbook. Every day there are “good people on both sides.”
What do we hear from our representatives in Congress about this behavior? Why is John Katko silent about these issues? Why doesn’t John Katko’s press release page include a condemnation of throwing our most important alliance under the bus, while giving Putin and Kim and Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller seats in the front of it?
Where is John Katko when we need him to hear our concerns, face to face. What is he doing while Washington burns?
Crickets, Mr. Katko, crickets. Is he surprised there is an ever more vigorous campaign to dislodge him?
