To the editor:
The Village of Minoa cancelled their Memorial Day parade and ceremony due to inclement weather, but that did not deter six representatives of our military. Four of the service members formed a color guard and marched along the Minoa parade route followed by two military vehicles driven by the other two members of the group. There were about a dozen spectators near the village hall as the small parade group went by.
After finishing their march, the service members returned to the village hall to perform a ceremony at the village war monuments to honor those who had died or were wounded while fighting for the things we hold dear to us. There was the laying of the wreath and a rifle salute for the fallen.
As demonstrated by this small respectful band of brothers, the meaning of Memorial Day is short and simple: to remember and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
