To the editor:

Last Tuesday evening, some people tore apart and split the upper section off the new Honey Locust tree planted on Lincklaen Street next to the Lincklaen House. There is no excuse for this kind of action. Period! It in no way was an accident; it was intentional, the damage to the tree required probably at least two sets of hands to rip it apart.

If this action was done by Cazenovia community residents, all the more shameful.

Too many people have labored on replanting and nurturing the village’s trees, not to mention that these two trees in front of the Lincklaen House were donated by private citizens who care strongly about Cazenovia. The Tree Commission, village department of public works, other community organizations and numerous private citizens have made an immense difference and contribution to the village through pro-active tree care and replacement.

Wanton destruction of public property is never justified. People who make these decisions, and whatever decisions lead up to the damage need to be held accountable. If anyone can shed some light on the culprits, please let the village know. This type of action is intolerable.
