To the editor:
In the June 1 edition of the Star-Review were pictures of the Memorial Day parade that took place in the village of Liverpool.
The photo that struck me bringing back bad memories of World War II was the Liverpool Colorguard’s banners. I was not at the parade, but the banners looked like duplicates of the battle flag the Japanese used during WWII.
I’m hoping the Colorguard flags were designed unaware of this fact. If not, we do have a problem. These banners should not be used in the future.
I’m also hoping I’m not the only WWII veteran who notified the school about this very sensitive issue.
