Question: What do you know about this establishment? Where was is located? Do you know the two gentlemen looking at the sign? What do you know about the building seen in the upper left corner?
Last week’s answer: The photo from last week was taken by long time Baldwinsville photographer Harold Bovee on the occasion of the grand opening of the new Troy Grocery Store on Sept. 1, 1950.
Bill Murray, co-proprietor with Earl Guppy opened the store in the newly constructed reinforced steel and cement building, occupying the first floor. It was decorated with 27 baskets of flowers that has been sent by friends wishing them good luck in their endeavor. Murray and his wife Irene had previously operated the Troy Food Market in another location since 1939.
The operation in the new location lasted until 1964.
Several people called in with the correct answer, but Carl Kline was the first.
