Rescue Mission Home Delivered Holiday Meals. The Rescue Mission provides home delivered meals for seniors on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If you are interested in a free home delivered meal on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day, please call Canton Woods Outreach workers. This meal is for the elderly and/or homebound individuals. The recipient must be home on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas Day to receive the meal.
Deadlines are as follows: for Thanksgiving your reservation and information must be to the Outreach workers by Nov. 6 and for Christmas Day by Dec. 4. Please call (315) 638-4536.
November events
Art Group will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 14 and 28. This group is facilitated by retired B’ville Art Teacher, Mike Conway. The Art Group focuses on drawing and painting. Bring your sketchbook and art supplies.
Canton Woods Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21. They will be discussing “Wish You Well,” by David Baldacci. Get reading and join the lively discussion.
DATE CHANGE: Emergency Preparedness Presentation will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 27 at Canton Woods. This is a free training course which provides an introduction to responding to a natural or man-made disaster. The course instructor is Staff Sgt. Duane Morgan. Please call the center if you plan to attend.
Staying healthy
Flu shots will be available at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17. Please call to let us know you plan to attend the clinic (315) 638-4536. Bring your insurance cards.
Active Older Adult Exercise lead by a Y instructor has resumed for the fall season. This class is every Tuesday and Thursday. There is a fee for this class payable to the instructor.
Falls Prevention Class returns to Canton Woods after the fall break. This is a free class taught by a licensed physical therapist. Class is held from 10 to 11 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
Canton Woods now has a medication return collection unit. This is a safe and environmentally-friendly way to dispose of your unused medications. You may drop off your unused medication to the return box at Canton Woods from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Senior nutrition
You can enjoy lunch at the center. Canton Woods is a senior nutrition lunch site on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Make a reservation at (315) 638-4536 and stop by at noon for lunch. The nutrition program is open to anyone 60 years of age and older. Suggested donation is $3.
Wondering what’s for lunch? On Wednesday, Nov. 1, the menu includes Salt City Fried Chicken, black beans and rice, country blend vegetables and juicy diced pears! Make a reservation and join us for lunch!
