The 2016 Summer Reading Program at the Northern Onondaga Public Library (NOPL) is officially underway! Children and teens can sign up for the program, report the books they’ve read and earn prizes. Simply stop in at any NOPL branch — Brewerton, Cicero or North Syracuse — to sign up and receive a packet of goodies, or sign up online at nopl.org/srp.
This year’s Summer Reading theme is “On your mark, get set … read!” Everyone is encouraged to get into the spirit of teamwork, exercise, games and friendly competition while they continue to read and expand their minds. Each branch will host plenty of fun and free events for all ages throughout the summer that include things like edible treats, giant board games, exciting workshops, and movie screenings of current and popular films.
The following are just a few of the many upcoming events NOPL has planned for this summer:
- Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest: 2 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 30, NOPL @ North Syracus
- Jeff the Magic Man: 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, June 30, NOPL @ Brewerton
- Giant Games: 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, July 5, NOPL @ Cicero
- Nerdy Nummies for Teens: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 7, NOPL @ North Syracuse
- Teens: Hooping Class: 2 to 3 p.m. Monday, July 11, NOPL @ Cicero
By participating in NOPL’s Summer Reading Program, children and teens can continue to give their brains a workout, engage in fun activities and help prevent the “summer slide” — the learning loss that can occur while on summer vacation.
For additional information about programs stop in at any NOPL location or check out nopl.org/srp to see a detailed list of events, dates and times.
