The North Syracuse Central School District is pausing in-person instruction beginning Dec. 17 due to the increase of COVID-19 cases in Onondaga County.
“This increase has led to a significant number of students and staff members being required to quarantine for 14 days. This has created challenges in staffing our schools and contact tracing, as well as communicating with our NSCSD families and staff in a timely manner,” Superintendent Dan Bowles wrote in a letter to parents. “Given the challenges we are facing, and out of an abundance of caution for our faculty, students, and families, the North Syracuse Central School District has made the decision to pause all in-person instruction (PK-12) beginning Thursday, Dec. 17.”
All North Syracuse students will participate in remote learning each day from Dec. 17 through Dec. 22.
Pre-kindergarten students of the North Syracuse Early Education Program (NSEEP) and NSCSD students through fourth grade will be contacted by their classroom teachers to establish a daily remote instructional schedule. Students in grades 5-12 will follow their regular assigned schedule.
The district’s holiday recess begins Dec. 23. The district anticipates returning to its hybrid schedule when school resumes on Jan. 4.
Students who attend CTE programs at BOCES can continue to go to BOCES next week. The district will continue to transport students or they can drive themselves to BOCES if they have been granted prior permission. Special education students who attend specialized programs outside of the District will be transported to these sites each day at their normal times.
“I appreciate your continued support and patience as we work through the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure the health and safety of our students and staff. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break,” Bowles wrote.
