A student at Fayetteville-Manlius High School has tested positive for COVID-19, causing the district to declare that high school classes on Thursday, Sept. 24 will be held remotely for all students.
According to a statement from the Superintendent Dr. Craig Tice, the Onondaga County Health Department will begin contact tracing protocols on the morning of Sept. 24.
“We anticipate returning to our regular hybrid learning model with students in attendance on Friday, September 25, 2020, unless we are directed by the Onondaga County Department of Health to do otherwise,” Tice wrote in an email to parents. He said the district will provide an update on Sept. 24, based on the county’s investigation.
The district was not required to shut the school down for in-person learning, but did so “out of an abundance of caution and to allow Onondaga County Department of Health officials to begin their work.”
Elementary and middle schools in the district are unaffected by the change, and will continue on their regular hybrid schedules.
