Three Cazenovia High School student-athletes yesterday signed letters of intent to attend colleges and play lacrosse as recruited athletes. CHS seniors Brice Basic, Megan Henderson and Chris Becker, supported by family, friends and coaches, announced their plans during a special announcement ceremony on April 13 in the high school gym lobby.

Basic announced that he will attend V.M.I. (Virginia Military Institute) where he will study business and finance and play lacrosse for the Division I Keydets. He signed his national letter of intent to the school during the April 13 ceremony.

Basic said he had multiple options of Division I schools to choose from to attend, and asked himself, “Which school would I be most proud of myself to graduate from?” He chose VMI because he loved the campus and found the lacrosse coach to be friendly and the team to be cool.

Basic said he decided to study business and finance because he wanted a broad topic to study that would offer him “more opportunities and decisions down the road.” He has not decided whether or not he will join the military after graduation from VMI.

Megan Henderson

Henderson announced that she will attend SUNY Geneseo where she will study international relations and play lacrosse for the Division III Knights. She signed her letter of commitment to the school during the April 13 ceremony.

Henderson, who was recruited by the Geneseo women’s lacrosse coach, said that when she visited the campus she “fell in love with it” and felt like the school was “a perfect fit” for her. Her mother is also a Geneseo alumn.

Henderson said she decided to study international relations because she is interested in business — her father’s profession — and she loves foreign languages and is interested in learning about the world.

Chris Becker

Becker announced that he will attend RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) where he will study industrial engineering and play lacrosse for the Division III Tigers. He signed his letter of commitment to the school during the April 13 ceremony.

Becker said his selection of RIT for college was “really about academics first because not many schools have good lacrosse and engineering programs.” He said he chose engineering as a major because it will be a good way to find a job after graduation.
