Teachers and students from the community gathered at Syracuse University June 27 to July 1 for Science Horizons, the summer science program sponsored by Bristol-Myers Squibb.
Forty middle school students, including six students from schools in the Eagle Bulletin coverage area, were selected from schools throughout Onondaga County to participate in the 24th annual Summer Science Adventure. Student were chosen for their interest in science, academic achievement, ability to work with others and potential to benefit from the program.
Funded by Bristol-Myers Squibb and hosted by University College of Syracuse University, the program gives local seventh and eighth grade students an opportunity to experience a variety of scientific adventures. Science Horizons students take part in hands-on activities, attend presentations and discussions, and go on field trips, exploring the fields of engineering, chemistry, biology and the environment. The week included a tour of the Bristol-Myers Squibb facility in East Syracuse.
Science Horizons is staffed by experienced science teachers from high schools in the City of Syracuse and Central New York and Science Horizons alumni. Faculty and staff from Syracuse University, SUNY Upstate Medical University, Lockheed Martin, and other organizations also serve as presenters and field trip hosts.
Students were selected by their schools to attend this year’s program.
