In June, a trio of Fayetteville-Manlius High School students represented their school at National History Day in Maryland.
Following top-scoring finishes at qualifying events held at the regional and state levels, juniors Mirren Galway and Siddhi Nadkarni and sophomore Patrice Calancie have earned spots in the Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest, which ran June 12 to 16 at the University of Maryland.
This is the first time F-M will be represented in the national event, said Paul Muench, who advises the high school’s National History Day Club with F-M High School social studies teacher Ardyth Watson.
At the national event, thousands of students from across the United States, Guam, American Samoa, China, Korea, South Asia and Central America will present research projects, including documentaries, exhibits, historical papers and performances, focused on this year’s contest theme, “Exploration, Encounter, Exchange.”
Mirren, Siddhi and Patrice will present their research project on civil rights activist Matilda Joslyn Gage. Their work will be evaluated by a panel of judges based on its historical quality, relation to theme and presentation clarity.
