Jean M. Yorton, 97, of Cazenovia (1946-2014) died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown. She retired from Cazenovia Central Schools as a bookkeeper/accountant, with past careers as a bookkeeper at Key Bank and Marine Midland Bank. She was born in the town of Cazenovia and graduated from Canastota High School in 1943. She married Charles Yorton in 1944, and they celebrated nearly 70 years of marriage. They spent two weeks in Hawaii for their 50th wedding anniversary. Jean was an accomplished seamstress and she enjoyed many craft activities. She was a big supporter of Charles and his activities with the Cazenovia Pony Club.
Surviving are her children, Carolyn (Peter) Crosby of Anchorage, AK, Stephen (Janice) Yorton of Carthage and Gayle (Mark) Sloan of Myrtle Beach, SC; her grandchildren Elizabeth (Ray) Cattin of Longview, WA, Barrett (Renee Boak) Crosby of Potsdam, Jennifer (Toby) Draper and Allison Yorton of Watertown, and David (Thea Canlas) Sloan of Baltimore, MD; and her great-grandchildren Jillian, Claire, Rayna, Natylee, Oliver and Isagani. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Charles, and her sister, Ruth Lucas.
Calling hours are Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with services to follow at Michael E. Brown Funeral Services, 2333 Fenner Road in Cazenovia. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
