David Stewart passed away on Dec. 21, 2020, in Morrisville at the age of 87. The cause of death was from COVID-19.
Born in Louisville, KY, in 1933, David attended Pebble Hill School and went on to graduate from Kimball Union Academy in 1952, and Lehigh University in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in history. At all schools he played football and lacrosse, and later officiated both sports until his late 40s at both the college and high school level. David began his life-long career in sales with his first job at The Pillsbury Company in Central New York. Shortly thereafter, he moved on to sales for many years at Syracuse Supply in Syracuse. In 1979, he moved to West Simsbury, CT, where he continued to work in warehouse materials handling sales at Lewis Boyle. David never officially retired and continue working in some capacity until age 80 when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.
David loved the outdoors and spent much of his free time fishing, skiing and gardening. He was also a fantastic chef and amateur carpenter. David’s most memorable contribution to this world may have been his plethora of colorful jokes and comments. He loved life, and a good limburger cheese and onion sandwich. Anyone who met him could not get away without first hearing about his two new knees and his grandchildren of whom he was very proud. He was a small man who lived large.
David was predeceased by his wife Barbara of 51 years. He is survived by his three daughters and their families: Sandra Stewart and her children Courtney Cliffe of New York City and Connor Cliffe of Bellevue, WA; Sarah Stewart Falso, her husband Ray and children Stewart (Stewy) of Pompey, N.Y., and Emily of Manlius, NY; Hooey Wilks, her husband Jeffrey and children Lucy of New Canaan, CT, and Phoebe of Brooklyn, N.Y., and one of many corgis named Daisy.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers who helped care for David in his final years and ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Food Bank of Central New York (foodbankcny.org). There will be no services at this time. Online condolences, shepardsonfh.com.
