Jane L. Pushlar-Magee, 80 years old of Erieville, N.Y., and a resident of Arcadia, Florida went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, with her loving family by her side. She was born April 18, 1940, in Syracuse, the second child of the late Donald and Theresa Crawford. Jane was a graduate of Central Tech High School in Syracuse in 1958 and furthered her education at SUNY Cortland for physical education until her marriage to Paul Pushlar, of Cazenovia, in the summer of 1959. Jane’s employment history was diverse, with jobs ranging from secretary for the Internal Revenue Service to several staff positions at Rosie’s Tuscarora Inn in Erieville.
Jane retired in 2005 as the Marketing Director with Baco Controls of Cazenovia. She became a member of the Erieville Fire Department in 1978 and was proud to be accredited as one of the first female volunteer fire-fighters in Central New York. Jane was able to advance quickly in the fire department as an EMT and Rescue Captain. She continued her involvement in the community as a Girl Scout leader for many years, volunteered with the Cazenovia Fire Department and was a member of the Purple Hats.
Jane was a true foodie and enjoyed camping, reading, canning, traveling, thrift shopping, and designing clothes from curtains. There weren’t many people who could read a book, answer “Jeopardy” questions, follow Facebook and carry on a conversation at the same time quite like Jane.
She is survived by six children, Susan (Tim) Smith, Pamela (Tom) Ivey, Ellen (John) Fox, Robin Maciag, Karen Metz and Dean (Nicole Bennett) Pushlar; four step-children, Susan Barber-Kowalski, Harry Magee, Teresa Driscoll and Evelyn Whitlock; 26 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband of 33 years, Robert P. Magee Sr.; sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Doug Adams; granddaughter, Elizabeth Smith and step-son, Robert P. Magee, Jr.
A remembrance gathering will be held in the spring of 2021. Contributions in Jane’s name can be made to the Erieville Fire Department, P.O. Box D, Erieville, NY 13061 or Hospice of Central New York and of the Finger Lakes, 990 Seventh North St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
