Peter W. Nostrant, 73, died Sunday Nov. 3, 2019, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in White River Jct., VT.
He was born Oct. 26, 1946, in Cooperstown, N.Y., a son of John and Rosemary (Williams) Nostrant. Pete’s mother died at a young age and, after his father remarried, he was raised by his father and Phyllis Nostrant. He went to school in Cherry Valley, N.Y., and later graduated from Baldwinsville High School where he was a star athlete including winning a state championship in wrestling following an undefeated season. Pete attended Adirondack Community College before serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge he settled in White River Jct., VT, where he met Lois Dutille and they were married Aug. 18, 1973. Together they made their home and raised their family in the Upper Valley including time in Wilder, Etna and Enfield. Pete was a gifted salesman and worked at various places in the area including Mascoma Auto in Canaan. The Nostrant’s moved to Newbury in 2018 to be nearer to their children and grandchildren.
Pete will be fondly remembered for his kindness, generosity, courage and playful personality. He told great stories and had a quick wit. He enjoyed golf, fishing and, most of all, attending his family’s athletic events and was always the number one fan of his children and grandchildren. He also coached football and lacrosse for many years in Hanover and Kearsarge schools.
He leaves his wife, Lois, of Newbury; son, Michael Nostrant and his wife Heidi; daughter, Kimberly Day and grandchildren Grace, McKenzie, Cooper and Libby all of Bradford, VT; mother, Phyllis Nostrant and sisters, Pam Saraceni and Patricia Reyna, all of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; brother John Nostrant of Radnor, PA, as well as several nieces and nephews.
