TOWN OF MANLIUS – The special election in the town of Manlius to determine whether the town will move to a ward system will take place this Saturday, Sept. 23 at Manlius Town Hall on Brooklea Drive. Voting will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
All registered voters in the town are eligible to vote. Any absentee ballots that have been distributed must be received by 5 p.m. on Sept. 23 in order to be counted.
Earlier this year, members of the Manlius Republican party passed petitions to force the special election on the ward system. If the measure passes and residents successfully vote to convert the town to a ward system, the Onondaga County Board of Elections will be tasked with creating six wards of approximately equal population.
In addition, terms for town board members will be reduced from four years to two years and the terms of all board members will expire at the end of 2025.
