Village seeks public input for policing initiative

The Village of Cazenovia is seeking the community’s input on its policing needs. Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 203 requires each local government entity with a police agency to perform a comprehensive review of the current police agency and to develop a plan to improve the agency. The goal is to promote community engagement to foster trust, fairness, and legitimacy.

A very important part of that review is to seek public input to understand community needs. There will be a public session to provide initial inputs to the planning process at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3 at the Village Hall. For those who prefer to attend remotely, Zoom conference participation is also welcome. Please go to zoom.us and enter Meeting ID: 955 5392 0554. Call the Village Office at 315-655-3041 to obtain the password.

In addition to the public meeting, community members are encouraged to write their comments using an online survey at docs.google.com/forms.

The survey questions are open ended and designed to provide a framework and focus for discussion of local issues and expectations relevant to the Police Department:

  • What are the most important missions of our Police Department?
  • What specific suggestions do you have to improve how our department accomplishes these missions?
  • How effective is our Police Department at meeting the needs of all segments of our community?
  • What specific suggestions do you have to improve our department’s approach to policing in Cazenovia?

To keep the planning process moving, comments are requested by December 15.
