To the editor:
We rely on the Town of Cicero Highway Department to travel safely in winter. We go to work or school and sometimes we need to depend on emergency medical or fire calls. The highway department relies on residents to pay for equipment and an adequate highway garage to store and maintain a lot of expensive equipment.
The highway garage we have is more than 50 years old and was built when our community was much smaller. For many years it has been inadequate to accommodate all of the equipment we have and need. It is in very poor condition and is not worth repairing. It is also in a poor location. Fully loaded plow trucks currently drive through the town hall parking lot to get to Route 11.
We as a community we need to be aware of and address this critical situation. We need a new highway garage of adequate size in an accessible location. On June 7, please come out and vote yes. Our community needs this new facility to continue to be safe and successful.
