Students at Creative Environment Day School in Fayetteville celebrated Arbor Day on April 28 with an event to signify the 17th consecutive year the village of Fayetteville has been awarded a Tree City USA designation. Students learned about Arbor Day from their teachers in the weeks following up to the event, made tree hats and sang songs about trees along with Mr. Sunflower.
Matt Swayze, senior forester for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, presented Fayetteville Village Trustee Michael Small and the Fayetteville Tree Commission with a Tree City USA flag. Each student was provided with a white spruce tree sapling to take home and plant themselves.
