The North Syracuse Board of Trustees kept its April 13 meeting short and sweet — just 25 minutes — but the board addressed several issues during its brief meeting:
Garage sale
The village-wide garage sale will be held May 20 and 21, but this could be the last year for the annual permit-free sale weekend.
“Now with everything being sold on Craigslist, we’ll see how many participants actually sign up this year,” Mayor Gary Butterfield said. “Maybe it’s something we don’t need to promote going forward, but we’ll schedule it this year and see what kind of results we get.”
Village budget
Clerk-Treasurer Dianne Kufel said she expects to complete the third model of the 2017-18 budget this week. The board voted to set the public hearing for the budget at 4:29 p.m. Thursday, April 27.
DPW truck
Gary Wilmer, department of public works superintendent, said the village will sell its 2016 plow truck at auction and purchase a 2017 Chevy 2500 with a plow. The 2016 truck has about 8,000 miles and will have around 10,000 once it is sold.
Wilmer said several other municipalities sell their vehicles at auction and purchase newer ones on state bid, which is lower than the market price. Wilmer said this should save the village money, and the DPW essentially gets a new truck each year for a lower price.
New poll questions
Butterfield said the village website has two new poll questions regarding a proposed three-month permit for A-frame signs outside businesses and feather- or flag-style signs. The poll questions can be found at northsyracuseny.org.
