Lysander — Departing members of the Lysander Town Board said their goodbyes and wrapped up the year’s business at the board’s final meeting of the year on Dec. 28.
The board voted to:
- Authorize the supervisor to sign a contract with Teamsters Local 317, which represents employees in both the highway and parks departments. The agreement is effective Jan. 1, 2015, through Dec. 31, 2018.
- Approve budget transfers as recommended by the town comptroller.
- Approve a change order of $5,103 for an additional 405 linear feet of underdrain on Brundage Road and a payment request of $22,679.35 to JK Tobin Inc. for the Crego Street Reconstruction and Drainage Project.
- Approve the installation of stop signs at two intersections: Kerryman Circle entering Hourglass Lane and Coachmans Whip entering Hourglass Lane. A public hearing was held prior to the vote and no one spoke in favor or against the matter.
JAM, Dell say goodbye
Before the board handled its regular agenda, Councilors Roman Diamond and Bob Geraci thanked outgoing Supervisor John Salisbury, Deputy Supervisor Melinda Shimer, and Councilor Andy Reeves for their service to the town. Reeves was absent from the meeting.
“We haven’t always agreed, but I understand the challenges that elected officials face,” Diamond said to Salisbury and Shimer. “For your years of experience and for your time working for the public I want to thank each of you. I know it isn’t easy,”
“I sincerely believe in my heart, as much as we disagreed on methodologies at times, that the folks that are leaving truly tried to do a good job,” Geraci said. “I commend you for that and I really do wish you Godspeed and good will for what you continue to do.”
Geraci and Diamond extended their well wishes to Town Clerk Lisa Dell, who was elected county clerk and began her new job Jan. 1.
continued — “She has always been an outstanding friend and an advocate for the taxpayers, speaking out and standing up for what she has always believed is right. She has been a watchdog for this community and she is going to continue to do great things in the county,” Diamond said of Dell.
“I know that you are not retiring and you are going on to bigger pastures,” Geraci said. “Thank you for your six years of service to the town of Lysander.”
Salisbury and Shimer shared goodbye statements as well.
“I am proud to have served Lysander for the last four years along John and Andy and the five other board members that we have worked with. We have strived diligently and overcome challenges to accomplish many positive things,” Shimer said. “I will take the positive interactions with me and leave the rest behind and will go on to the next challenge.”
Salisbury highlighted his administration’s achievements, including the revised Comprehensive Land Use Plan, improvements to the town’s infrastructure and facilities, the sale of the Lysander Ice Arena and the consolidation of the Lysander and Baldwinsville fire districts into the North West Fire District.
“I was fortunate to be the supervisor and come to a town hall that had an excellent staff,” Salisbury said. “I am anxious to retire for the second time but I do thank again the residents of Lysander to be given the opportunity to serve in this position.”
