It was nearly two hours after the polls closed Tuesday night before the unofficial elections results were posted online by the Madison County Board of Elections – and it was a night of surprising results.
In the race for the 10-year term as judge of the Madison County Court, Nelson Town Justice Patrick O’Sullivan won the race with 5,501 votes. His challengers Marian Cerio and Kathleen Rapasadi received 2,972 and 2,515 votes respectively.
In the Cazenovia town elections, Supervisor Bill Zupan ran unopposed for reelection and received 1,105 votes out of a total 1,457 cast. For town board, one incumbent retained their seat while another did not. Councilor Tom Driscoll came out with the most votes for the election, garnering 937, while political newcomer Jimmy Golub also won a seat on the board with 771 votes. Incumbent Councilor and former town supervisor Liz Moran lost her reelection bid with 708 votes.
The Nelson Town Board election may not be over immediately, since only one vote separates two candidates in the contested election.
Incumbent John Laubscher definitely retained his seat with 287 votes. Incumbent John LaGorga received 232 votes while challenger Tammy Hayes received 231 votes. These numbers are the unofficial numbers from the Madison County Board of election, and absentee ballots may still need to be counted. The official winner of the second town board seat may not be known for a few days.
Out of the 450 total votes cast, three candidates who ran unopposed also retained their seats. Supervisor Roger Bradtsreet received 331 votes, town clerk Debbie Costello received 377 votes and highway superintendent Jack Sevier received 373 votes.
In Fenner, the six-candidate race for two seats on the board ended with two Republicans – one an incumbent – receiving the highest vote totals. Out of 406 total votes cast, Adam Pushlar won election to the board with 196 votes, while incumbent Councilor Bill Wester was reelected with 178 votes. Other candidate vote totals were: Carl Snow 166, Phil Rose 149, Judy Cary 67 and Tracy Carman 31.
On the unopposed side, Supervisor Dave Jones received 337 votes, town clerk Paula Douglas received 257 votes and highway superintendent candidate Dan Smith received 327 votes.
