The Fenner Town Board last week unanimously passed a resolution that opposes New York state’s Clean Water Act Resolution as an unnecessary and burdensome interference of the state on the town.
The resolution was set up by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps Engineers to ensure that only clean water flows into the Chesapeake Bay, New York state’s water outlet. However, in order to carry this plan out, more permits and plan outlines would be required from local municipalities in order to clean ditches, make ditches or tile. This would delay the town from fixing ditches because the permits would have to be sent in and accepted by a board, Jones said.
“The resolution would create an unnecessary waiting process. We are already good stewards of the land. We carry things out the right way agriculturally,” Supervisor Dave Jones said during the town board’s June 12 regular monthly meeting.
Also at the meeting, it was announced that the Fenner Town Planning Board is in need of a new member after a recent appointee has failed to contact the town board about his municipal board training or continuing further with his application.
“We need someone for this position,” Jones said. “It’s volunteer for the most part and there is not too much training, just a few hours. The board member receives $50 per year.”
Anyone interested in being considered for a seat on the planning board should call the town office at 655-2705, Jones said.
The board also reminded residents that Madison County is participating in the Return the F.A.V.O.R. Veterans Discount Program, under which participating businesses offer discounts on purchases or service for honorably discharged veterans. All a veteran has to do is present a veteran photo identification card, which they can get at their local department of motor vehicles.
