BALDWINSVILLE — A 43-year-old Village Green resident has been charged with the murder of his 74-year-old mother.
New York State Police responded to a reported suspicious death at 9:39 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 684 Idlewood Blvd. N. in the town of Van Buren. Troopers found Leora A. Chilson, 74, dead in her bedroom. NYSP arrested Ms. Chilson’s son, Daniel D. Chilson, who lived with her.
Daniel Chilson has been charged with murder in the second degree (a class A-1 felony) and tampering with physical evidence, a class E felony.
He was taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center and was arraigned in a virtual CAP (Centralized Arraignment Parts) hearing Dec. 7. Chilson entered a plea of not guilty, according to NewsChannel 9.
Chilson is not eligible for bail and will remain in custody until his next court appearance. He is scheduled to appear in Van Buren Town Court on Dec. 12.
After an autopsy, the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled Leora Chilson’s death a homicide. Her cause of death has been determined “multiple sharp force trauma to the neck.”
The investigation is ongoing.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and Baldwinsville Police Department assisted NYSP at the scene.
