Madison County Sheriff’s Office Investigators have arrested an East Syracuse man for unlawfully entering his old business building and seizing nearly $1,100 of property.
David T. Van Marter, 39, of East Syracuse, was arrested on Feb. 9 and charged with burglary in the third degree (class “D” felony) and grand larceny in the fourth degree (class “E” felony).
Van Marter previously owned a business called Syracuse Chimney and Stove which was located at 3279 State Route 31 in the Town of Lenox. On Feb. 5, agents from the New York State Department of Tax and Finance seized Van Marter’s business and all the items within the building due to Van Marter owing state taxes.
It is alleged that after the building and its contents were seized, Van Marter unlawfully entered the building and stole property with an approximate value of $1,100.
Van Marter was arraigned at the Town of Lenox Court and was then remanded to the Madison County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to reappear at court on Feb. 15 to answer the charges.
