A 34-year-old DeWitt man was arrested last Friday by Syracuse city police and charged with multiple drug-related crimes.
According to police, on Friday, Dec. 1, Syracuse Police Officers conducted a vehicle and traffic stop, of a white Nissan Maxima, in the 100 block of Oak Street. As the officers approached the car, they smelled the odor of burning marihuana emanating from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Marcus James, of Haverhill Drive, Dewitt.
While speaking with James, officers observed a plastic bag containing marihuana in the center console of the vehicle and a burnt marihuana filled cigar in the cup holder. Upon further investigation, James was found to be concealing 15.2 grams of crack cocaine on his person.
James was taken into custody without incident. He was arrested and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, aggravated unlicensed operation in the second degree, unlawful possession of marihuana and a number of vehicle and traffic related offenses. James was lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center pending his arraignment.
