The DeWitt Police Department has reported the arrest of a suspect in two separate robbery incidents that occurred Nov. 11 in the town of DeWitt and village of East Syracuse.
John Travers, 26, of Syracuse, was arrested on Nov. 12 and charged with robbery in the second degree and two counts of grand larceny in the fourth degree. Police said Travers used an online application to set up a fraudulent purchase of a motor vehicle and jewelry.
While test driving the vehicle, police say Travers stole the vehicle and used it to meet a second victim in order to view jewelry he showed interest in buying over the internet. Travers then displayed what appeared to be a handgun and stole the jewelry, police report.
Following his arrest, Travers was arraigned at the Town of DeWitt Justice Center and ordered to be held on $75,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
