The results of the investigation into the Feb. 7 stabbing that occurred in Jailhouse Alley in the village are in the hands of the county district attorney, who will make a determination soon on a course of action.
“At this point, the case is in the hands of District Attorney [Bill] Gabor,” said Cazenovia Police Chief Michael Hayes. “He’s very happy with the case we provided him.”
Cazenovia police have identified a suspect in the case, in which two Cazenovia College students received multiple stab wounds in the alley during the early morning hours of Sunday, Feb. 7, and were treated at area hospitals. The suspect, who has not been named, was visiting people in Cazenovia and does not live in the town, the county or any adjoining counties, Hayes said.
The suspect has not been arrested yet because the district attorney is preparing for a grand jury presentation to seek an indictment on the case, Hayes said.
Hayes also said that the broken storefront window at Cazenovia Abroad, located at 67 Albany St. — which is also part of the commercial block behind which the reported stabbing occurred that same evening — was apparently not connected to the stabbing and not an intentional act of vandalism against the store. “From what we’re getting, it was two guys messing around, drunk,” he said.
